Samsung Plans Initial Production of 5 Million Galaxy S7 in February

Samsung, the Korean electronic giant and top smartphone maker has planned to mass produce its Galaxy flagship smartphone in two version: 5.2 inch and 5.5 inch display size.

According to Korean Electronic Times, Samsung currently develops its Galaxy S7 under a project name 'HERO,' and the company will start to produce the smartphone in February 2016. The project was divided into HERO1 and HERO2 with difference in screen size and shape. The HERO1 has 5.2-inch flat display while 'HERO2' has 5.5-inch edge display.

Since Galaxy S6 launched last April, Samsung came up with its new invention: edge display. The edge display is a Samsung curved display technology to fit the unibody metal casing of Samsung Galaxy S6 as Samsung's premium smartphone product. When Galaxy S6 Edge was launched along with Galaxy S6, the curved display attracted a lot of attention, and that is what Samsung plan to do again in Galaxy S7

Samsung Electronics is focusing to increase sales of its premium phones in order to strengthen its profitability. Korean Electronic Times quoted that Samsung Electronics is planning to finish development of Galaxy S7 by January of 2016 and start mass-production starting from February. The company will procude about 5 million of Galaxy S7, consisting of 3.3 million Galaxy S7 and 1.6 million Galaxy S7 Edge.

In 2016, Samsung is expected to sell about 400 million phones. In a very saturated market of smartphone, Samsung prepared to enter the high-end market with similar strategy. An unidentified source told Korean Electronic Times that, "Samsung Electronics is preparing for two-track strategy to approach premium phone market more in detail."

Daily Mail speculated that there might be an information about Galaxy S7 projected price during China Mobile conference earlier this month. In one of presentations, China Mobile presents a future roadmap and mentioned about the next-generation handset was said to hit the shelves in March 2016. The presentation remarked the handset to be sold at the price of 3,000 CNY ($465), although it is not certain whether the handset mentioned was Galaxy S7 or not.

Samsung spokeperson has not confirmed about any rumors and speculation regarding the Galaxy S7. It is highly possible that Samsung wil reveal its new line of Galaxy series in the Mobile World Congress in February.

According to Ars Technica, in 2015, Samsung had four different "flagship" devices. The 5.1-inch Galaxy S6 and 5.1-inch Galaxy S6 Edge was launched at the beginning of the year and the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 5 and 5.7-inch Galaxy S6 Edge+ toward the end of the year.

This year Samsung will likely to concentrate on its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 Edge and focus on high-end and premium market.
