Anthony Bourdain is joined by Chef Samuelsson and wife in "Parts Unknown" as they explore Ethiopia

On the recent episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, the travel host Anthony Bourdain travelled to Ethiopia to explore great food and even better stories. Joining the host in his Ethiopian adventure is chef, restaurateur and author Chef Marcus Samuelsson and his model wife Maya Gate Haile.

The travel and food host mentioned that the country is filled with great cooks and great music. He added, "Ethiopia is absolutely unique and little understood. We're looking to shed a little light."

On CNN, Bourdain also wrote, "I've been meaning and hoping to visit Ethiopia and make a show there for years. But I would never consider doing it without Marcus coming along to put a personal spin on things. It's always better, I think, when we can see a new or unfamiliar place through a specific set of eyes, to have a particular voice telling us about a place."

In the sneak peek video shown in Eater, the trio pays a visit to Haile's mother and grandmother. They also tried on a local coffee, which is augmented with salt instead of sugar. Bourdain also spots youths skateboarding near a local bus stop as he muses on the under-18 median age in Ethiopia and the country's recent economic growth.

On the other hand, another chef, Marcus Samuelsson revealed that his exploration of his own sense of the place plays a major role in this episode. His relationship to Ethiopia is a complex one he claimed. The Ethiopian native also said, "I always find it such a paradox that I was born into very little food, but yet I've made my whole life about food." The restaurateur also mentioned, "My structure and pragmatism comes from being raised in Sweden. And my sort of vibrancy and warmth to cooking and feel-based food that I love comes definitely from here[Ethiopia]."

Moreover, his wife, ONE Mom Blogger, philanthropist and model Maya Haile Samuelsson is accompanying him and the host for their journey to the country. She had shared her trip on a blog post on ONE, claiming that she wants to share the culture and hospitality of Ethiopians. Ethiopia she stated, is home to many nations and nationalities.

Meanwhile, Bourdain told his fans that in order for them to appreciate the Ethiopian food, great music and some really deeply personal stories, they should catch the Ethiopia Episode of his travel show "Parts Unknown". The hour-long show also promises many expansive views of the nation's country side. The Ethiopia episode will air this Sunday at 9 P.M. ET on CNN.
