Twitter reveals diversity goals for 2016

Twitter disclosed its most recent staff diversity statistics along with its goal to have more colored people and more women employees in 2016.

At present, a majority of employees in Twitter U.S.A are white men.  Overall, 34 percent of the company's employees are women, with only 22 percent in leadership positions and 13 percent in the tech department.

The total number of women employees in Twitter this year has already increased by 4 percent since last year.

A majority of Hispanic and Black employees are employed in non-tech positions with the majority of leadership and tech positions filled by Asian and White employees.

Overall, there are 31 percent Asian and 59 percent White employees in the company and the rest of its workers are biracial (2%), Latino or Hispanic (4%), African American or Black (2%) and American Indian (less than 1%).

Twitter's Asian employees have increased by 4 percent since last year while white employees in leadership positions stayed the same at 72 percent. Unfortunately, the number of employees belonging to ethnic minorities decreased since last year in comparison with Twitter's report.

The company aims to increase its employees representing ethnic minorities to 11 percent, up by 1 percent its present number and increase the number of underrepresented minorities in tech positions by 9 percent. Twitter also wants to increase the number of women employees in both tech department and in general by 1 percent.

The goals might seem a tad bit low but it is obvious that tech companies are facing difficulties improving the number of women and people of color.

One of Twitter's planned strategies for luring more colored people into the company is to tour traditionally black colleges. The company also plans to establish partnerships with organizations that aim to help women and ethnic minorities in providing assistance on how to get into and advance in the tech industry.
