Snapchat vs Facebook - Who Is Winning The Social Media War?

By Staff Writer

Snapchat, video messaging upstart, in its warfare for video views with Facebook and YouTube now has reached 6bil video views daily but Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerbery countered that saying Facebook now receives 8bil video views.

Snapchat created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown of Stanford University allows users to take photos, record videos, add text and drawings etc and send them to a list of recipients and the items sent is known as "Snaps" and senders/users set a time limit how long a viewer can view the "Snaps" and as of September 2015 Crunch Base News  informs that the time limit for viewing by recipients of the Snaps is ranged between 1-10 seconds.

In 2014 sources say that Snapchat had indicated Snapchat's users were sending 700 million photos and videos per day while Snapchat's stories content was being viewed 500 million times per day. And the company has been valued between USD10-20bil according to sources in May 2015.

Business Insider quoting from IBT report in September 2015, stated of Snapchat drawing 4 bil video views a day and from Financial Times' latest report which says Snapchat now has 6 bil video views on its app every day. Business Insider was of the view that this latest figure means Snapchat is rapidly closing the gap with Facebook.

In a latest development Techcrunch News states Facebook has disclosed through its CEO Mark Zuckerberg after announcing Facebook's 3rdQ report that the social network sees more than 8 billion video views from 500 million users on a daily basis representing 100% growth from the April 2015 figure of having 4 billion daily video views. Facebook's daily video views are from both desktop and mobile users whereas Snapchat's users are solely from smartphones. Zuckerberg was reported to have said Facebook Groups now have 900 million monthly users, and he sees that as a growing opportunity between wider sharing on Facebook and Instagram, and private sharing on Messenger and WhatsApp.

Facebook's statistics as of 30 September 2015 shows it has already a solid base of 1.01 billion daily active users on average as at September 2015 and of that about 1.55bil monthly active users globally in addition to being the social media that captured the world's imagination after its launch in Feb 2004.Facebook allows people to share and stay connected. Statistics show that  83.5% of its daily active users are outside the US and Canada.Hence. we would say in all likelihood the emerging winner in the near and distant future would be Facebook.
