Qantas plans non-stop service from United Kingdom to Australia, airlines offer first class award space

By Staff Writer

Recently, Qantas is reportedly planning to connect London to Perth in an eighteen hour non-stop flight. Moreover, the airline company is also currently releasing significant amounts of award space to/from Australia in First Class, on the Airbus A380.

One of the longest flights in the world of two hours is from London to Perth. But now, Qantas is finally deciding to connect London to Perth in an eighteen hour non-stop flight."We are delighted to receive our first Dreamliner, which combined with Oman Air's award-winning service will provide an excellent travel experience for our customers", stated the Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, Paul Gregorowitsch.

However, the route would not be without its challenges. It is said that the London-Perth connection will be navigationally challenging. Reportedly, it will have to take diversions from the direct route over Crimea, which is off-limits for Western aircraft in the outcome of the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines' flight MH17 in 2014, killing 298 people onboard.

The airline company has eight 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft operating to replace its 747 jumbo jets. The 787-9s will have about 250 seats, including business class, premium economy and economy class. Qantas already takes the for the longest flight path in the world which is from Sydney to Dallas-Fort Worth. It is considered as a 13,800km haul that takes about 15 hours.

Purportedly, another airline company also plans to connect a journey from Australia to London. Richard Branson recently told Traveller that his space flight company Virgin Galactic is expected to make the journey from Australia to London in less than two hours within the next years.

For now, many frequent flyers think that Qantas' first class lounge in Sydney is considered as one of the best, as reported by One Mile At A Time. For now, most airlines have access to Qantas award space for approximately 11 months out, and even when the schedule opens there is rarely a seat available. And beyond that, it's infrequent for Qantas to open up more first class award seats as the departure date approaches, even if the cabin is wide open.

Qantas is also set to start the first class award space available between Australia and the US is starting in February 2016, Canadian Kilometers reported. The available routes for the first class space is from Sydney to Dallas, as well as from Melbourne to Los Angeles. There are also allegedly a very limited number of dates for two people, and also some dates available in the other direction, though the most space is on eastbound flights.

Currently, the flight of Qantas between Perth and London typically takes more than 22 hours, with a stopover in Dubai. Although there are also concerns regarding the airline's first class space, it is by far considered by most travelers as the best product available between the US and Australia.
