Transgender models are the new face of & Other Stories

By Staff Writer

H&M sister store, & Other Stories featured two transgender models, Hari Nefstylist and Valentijn De Hingh on its new fashion campaign on Friday. It also hired an all-transgender team to work during the shoot; makeup artist Nina Poon, stylist Love Bailey and photographer Amos Mac.

"The fashion world is embracing transgender models and we think that's great," Sara Hildén Bengtson, & Other Stories' creative director, stated in a report from the Time Magazine.

She added they are curious about how would transgender collaborate and influence the current environment in fashion. So they came up with the likely concept behind the camera, hiring an all-transgender team of creatives to work together in the ad campaign. Stylist Love Bailey, makeup artist Nina Poon and photographer Amos Mac were spotted working on the shoot.

"That's something I haven't experienced with other shoots, per se, where I've worked with other teams, other models, multiple girl stories, where you work with each other professionally and you like each other and have good conversation, but it's not the same thing as working with an all-trans team," De Hingh commented in the statement published by The Hot Zone.

Take Part mentioned Hari Nefstylist is a 22-year-old runway model at the New York Fashion Week.  Nefstylist graduated from Columbia University and got a contract with IMG international modeling firm a month after graduation. Now, she's the new face of & Other Stories together with De HIngh.

Other fashion labels also featured transgender women before. Barneys New York hired May Simón Lifschitz from Copenhagen. Australian transgender Andreja Pejic had a fashion campaign with Make-Up For Ever and Jazz Jennings had a Clean & Clear commercial.

It appears that it is really becoming a trend in the fashion industry to bring in a diverse range of models to expand the people's perspective of the traditional standards of beauty.

& Other Stories new collection will be on sale on August 20.
