Unidentified Woman who dumps rare Apple I Computer might still get rich

Clean Bay Area intends to give half the price of the Apple One computer to the unidentified woman who unknowingly dumped the old but rare product on their site.

The woman is being encouraged to come over the warehouse in Milpitas again and claim her $100,000 check since the company sold the computer for $200,000 in a private auction.

As part of their company policy, Clean Bay Area is supposed to give 50 percent of all sold items back to the original owner. However, the company finds the woman in her 60s untraceable.

Early April, the recycling company received a box of electronic equipment from a woman who was just cleaning her garage. The donor did not leave her name or any personal detail since she just wanted to get rid of the old computer that her late husband used to own.

Victor Gichun, vice president of Clean Bay Area, recalls the woman even refusing his offer to give her a tax receipt for her package.

The company did not open the box right away and when they did, they were all surprised to see a rare Apple One computer inside.

"We really couldn't believe our eyes. We thought it was fake," Gichun said upon seeing the rare piece of technology.

Unknowingly, the woman dropped one of only 200 Apple One computer ever built by Steve Jobs and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in 1976.

"It was the first computer that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created in their garage and it was sort of this breakthrough in personal computing," said Computer Science Professor David Crandall.

Clean Bay Area is now searching for the woman who accidentally dumped an extremely valuable Apple One computer last month. The woman can still claim her $100,000 check if she shows up in the recycling company since vice president Victor Gichun could still recognize her.
