Mercedes-AMG unveils the new convertible S65 Cabriolet with powerful V-12 engine

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet to top the line up of its S-Class family. The S65 combines Mercedes-Benz four seat S-Class Cabriolet with AMG powerful engine to deliver high performance. The car will be revealed to public at the Detroit Motor Show next month.

The 2017 S65 Cabriolet is the fifth V-12 powered Mercedes-Benz with AMG-badged line up. Chairman of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers said in a press release according to Autoblog, that the company is offering a four-seater high-performance convertible with the V12 Biturbo engine for the first time. Moers said that the new S65 Cabriolet offers top performance, a breathtaking driving experience and exquisite appointments.

The V-12 is a hand-built, 6.0-liter Biturbo unit that generates 621 horsepower from 4,800 to 5,400 rpm and a massive 738 pound-feet of torque from 2,300 to 4,300 rpm, according to Digital Trends.

The new S65 will rocket from zero to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds with the power transmitted to the rear wheels through a seven speed automatic transmission and 12 cylinder.The speed is electronically limited to top out at 155 mph, but there is an optional AMG Driver's package for buyers who live in Germany that can speed the limiter up to 186 mph with the roof down.

The new S65 has three transmission modes called Controlled Efficiency, Sport, and Manual. The Controlled Efficiency mode features an automatic start/stop system in order to keep gas mileage in check.

The exterior of the new S65 offers twin-blade grille on the front  called lower A-wing, according to Car and Driver. The front splitter is all executed in the high gloss material, as well as the mesh in the grille and the air intake. The S65 is equipped with 20-inch wheel design.

The new S65 offers full Nappa leather interior with diamond pattern stitching on the seats. It offers three spoke sport steering wheel, a heads-up display, heated front and rear seats, heated armrests, as well as Mercedes' standard Airscarf technology that keeps front occupants' necks warm. The  cloth top can be raised or lowered in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph.

The buyers who live in Europe can order the new S65 Cabriolet starting in April 2016, with deliveries starting in May. The release of the new AMG model in the U.S. is still not confirmed. The price of the new Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet has not been revealed yet, but it is expected to be higher than the siblings, the fixed-roof Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe, which currently starts at $234,050.
